Software/Webware Localization PDF Print E-mail

As the boundaries between software and webware continue to blur, the challenges for localization continue to evolve:

BULLET  Higher bandwidth and processing power are pushing audio and video into all products and services

BULLET  Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) favors a model of simultaneous release into all languages rather than rolling out        languages by tier or region

BULLET  Complex products with rich media are exposed to greater issues in cultural and legal adaptation than the        simpler products of yesteryear.

Andovar is a key localization provider to the most successful Web 2.0 and SaaS companies and a major supplier to the learning-technology industry. Staying ahead of the technology curve, we are continuously evaluating the impact of new technologies on localization and globalization.

Engineering

As formats evolve and increase in complexity, the challenge for our localization engineers is simple:

- how to extract text for translation and recycling with maximum efficiency, and then integrate it with the same efficiency.

We begin each project preparation phase begins by consulting with our client to streamline the extraction of localizable content into and out of CAT tool formats and to identify the appropriate workflow methodologies for efficient updates.

We then overlap the technical, translation and QA phases of software localization to maximize overall speed of delivery while allowing rapid feedback and integration. Our experienced project managers use in-house engineering and QA teams so that technical and practical issues are centrally managed rather than lost in a network of vendors.

Flash/LMS Localization

Andovar has a dedicated team of Flash localization developers who have much experience of the most common challenges and issues faced when attempting to create and localize multilingual Flash content.

The most critical stage in a successful Flash localization project is proper initial development. There are many challenges for us as Flash developers in an international market, the most important of which is having an awareness of the target language(s) scope and developing Flash content with localization in mind.
Flash Localization
Intelligent planning for future localization is the best method of ensuring successful deployment of your company’s multilingual Flash content. Our developers are more than happy to work alongside new and existing clients at the project development and design stage to ensure effective internationalization of the project by addressing issues such as:

  • Use of Dynamic vs. Static text objects.
  • Externalizing translatable text whenever possible to aid in translation preparation.
  • Internationalizing custom components animations, images, etc.
  • Creating a content layout that can accommodate text expansion.
  • When using synchronized voice-over tracks in Flash - anticipate timeline scaling to allow for potentially longer localized audio.
